Want to know a
SECRET?
Freemasonry is one of the best-kept secrets of modern times. Very few people understand that the most valuable things are often "hidden in plain view", and Freemasonry is just that. We make no secret of the fact that we take good men and challenge them to become even better, yet nobody seems to know about this. Most people don't know that we spend millions of dollars in charity annually, and that all of this money comes out of the pockets of these good men and from the wise investments made by their forebears. Few are aware that we are not a religion and most don't know that we extend the hand of friendship and toleration to all faiths. The "secret handshakes" are merely a cunning distraction – the real secrets of Freemasonry are already in your heart and we can help you to discover them.
About UsLodge Howick meets at the Howick and Districts Masonic Centre, 1-3 Highland Park Drive, Highland Park, Manukau, which is in the Auckland East District of the Freemasons New Zealand Northern Division. Our regular meetings are held on the fourth Wednesday of each month except November, December and January. We usually Tyle at 7:30pm, though this is sometimes brought forward if a lengthy meeting is anticipated. We are proud to maintain a high standard of ceremonial and we welcome visitors (Freemasons only of course!) – we delight in entertaining Brethren from other Lodges of our own and sister constitutions, and also Freemasons visiting from overseas. High Tea
Benevolence goes Green
The Team (l-r): James Frost, Ross Kirkbride, Ken Galley, Mike Abercrombie, Peter Sherwood, Mike Costello, August 1, 2010 – Brethren from the Howick and Districts Masonic Centre Lodges arrived in force at the Pakuranga Children's Health Camp on a sunny Saturday morning ready to get their hands dirty. Armed with wheelbarrows, spades, compost, and 60 Pohutukawa trees kindly donated by Project Crimson, this enterprising team of Masons set about their work with a purpose and soon had the trees in the ground. Local Freemasons have been involved with the Health Camp for more than 25 years, helping to provide funding and facilities, and each year staging a Christmas party complete with Santa (who on this occasion exchanges his sleigh and reindeer for a fire engine) and a present for each of the children. |

July 31, 2010 – As Freemasons, we place great emphasis on charitable activities and this benevolence extends to looking after the widows of our Brethren who have passed away. That's why a bus arrived at the Highland Park Lodge rooms on Saturday, July 31st, and whisked a crowd of some 28 Lodge widows off to Cornwall Park for High Tea. The Combined Lodges – Lodge Wairoa, Lodge Howick, and The Pakuranga Lodge – put on two events per year for our widows: a mid-year luncheon (or High Tea in this year's case) and a Christmas function. But that's not all: assistance with shopping trips, a ride to the doctor's clinic, fixing leaky taps, garden tidy-ups or just being someone to talk to are just a few of the ways that Brethren help out. The myth that women are totally excluded from Freemasonry is thus shown to be baseless – these wonderful ladies are very dear to us and we love to see them enjoy themselves as they certainly did at this year's mid-winter event. The bus ride home bubbled with conversations about where to go next time …
